Unlocking The Spectrum Is Now Offering Home-Based ABA
When we founded Unlocking The Spectrum, we offered exclusively home-based ABA therapy. We entered each child’s world—meeting them in their living rooms, kitchens, and backyards—where we could see their natural routines and tailor therapy to fit seamlessly into their daily lives. Over time, we expanded to center-based care, adding opportunities for social interaction, group skill-building, and structured learning.
Now, we’re excited to return to our roots with the option of in-home ABA services in some of the areas that we service. Many of our regions have extensive waitlists, and we know that there is a need to keep striving towards our mission of making the highest quality ABA therapy accessible to every child who needs it. By offering in-home ABA services, as well as continuing our center-based practices, we are taking a step towards ensuring that every child receives the individualized, play-based therapy they deserve, in the setting that works best for them and their family.
Why In-Home ABA?
While our centers offer valuable, peer interaction and a structured learning environment, in-home therapy offers a different snapshot: a direct view of the child’s day-to-day environment and surroundings. This perspective helps us create more targeted, family-centered interventions. For many children, In-Home ABA therapy can be a game-changer. Here’s why:
- Better Generalization of Skills – When a child learns a new skill in the environment where it will actually be used, the learning sticks. At home, generalization happens naturally, rather than needing to be programmed into clinic activities.
- Increased Parent Involvement – Parents and caregivers are naturally present during home sessions, making it easier to collaborate, observe, and practice skills outside therapy hours.
- Highly Individualized Attention – With no other children or therapy teams in the room, your child gets focused, uninterrupted one-on-one support.
- Integration into Real Routines – Whether it’s mealtime, homework, after-school transitions, or bedtime, in-home therapy allows us to work with the rhythms of your family life instead of re-creating them in a clinic.
- Real-Life Problem Solving – Home-based ABA therapy can be more flexible. Our therapists can respond to real-life moments as they happen. If a sibling needs attention, a pet enters the room, or a challenge comes up during a household routine, our therapist will be right there to turn it into an opportunity for real-world problem solving and skill-building.
- Comfort & Familiarity – Home can be especially beneficial for young children, children with trauma histories, or those who experience anxiety in unfamiliar settings.
Who Benefits Most from In-Home ABA?
In-home ABA can be effective for a wide range of children, regardless of functioning level or skill deficits. However, certain groups may be especially well-suited for the home learning environment:
- Younger children (especially under 5) who are most comfortable at home.
- Children with trauma histories or high anxiety about leaving familiar settings.
- Families wanting a strong collaborative model with ongoing caregiver participation.
For children with high behavioral needs requiring immediate and intensive intervention, center-based care may still be the better fit.
Looking Ahead
Ultimately, our goal is to offer the ideal setting for each individual child, while working to fill the gap in services whenever we can, because every child deserves the support they need to thrive. Bringing back in-home services is both a nod to our beginnings and a step forward in meeting families where they are.
We’d love to connect with you and share more about our services. From helping with insurance and finding the right setting for your child to celebrating every milestone along the way, we’re here to support your family and help your child thrive
